Roundtable with Ara Oshagan (Opening Lecture: “Entangled”)
Ara Oshagan is an image-based multi-disciplinary artist and curator who has published three books of photography and created multiple critically-acclaimed public art installations, projects and exhibitions. His works have been exhibited internationally and can be found in multiple public and private collections. Born in Beirut, Oshagan and his family were uprooted by the Lebanese civil war and he grew up in the US. At the core of his work is an exploration of his personal as well as collective history and lived experience of displacement and diaspora. Displaced is the third book of photography, which was released in November 2021 by German publisher Kehrer Verlag. He lives in Los Angeles with his family. In his lecture at the CGSI, Ara Oshagan will discuss two of his recent endeavors: his curatorial practice with ReflectSpace Gallery and project in Beirut examining memory sites, diasporic space and legacies of violence.
